Award for EpiSensor Academic Partner

December 12th, 2008 - Dublin, Ireland

Technology developed by Professor Dermot Diamond of Dublin City University (DCU) and licensed to EpiSensor has received a commercialisation award at Enterprise Ireland’s Industrial Technologies Commercialisation Conference held in Dublin recently. Professor Diamond was recognised for his work in developing an autonomous phosphate analyser for water quality monitoring and for the partnership with EpiSensor to develop the product for commercial markets.

“Combining the expertise of Professor Diamond and EpiSensor will accelerate the delivery of a world beating solution for the environmental monitoring industry,” commented Brendan O’Malley, CEO, EpiSensor.

EpiSensor is a leader in the development of ZigBee based wireless sensor networks. The company has developed products for energy consumption monitoring, street light control, water quality monitoring and building climate control.

Professor Diamond’s is currently director of the National Centre for Sensor Research (www.ncsr.ie), and a Principal Investigator in the SFI funded ‘CLARITY’ CSET (www.clarity-centre.com/). His research interests range over molecular recognition, electrochemical and optical chemical sensors and lab-on-a-chip devices for sensor applications in environmental, clinical, food quality and process monitoring. The development of fully autonomous sensing devices, wireless sensors and sensor networks is a major focus of his current research activities (www.dcu.ie/chemistry/asg/).

The Industrial Technologies Commercialisation Awards, which were presented by Dr Jimmy Devins, TD, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, are made annually by Enterprise Ireland to researchers who have shown both scientific excellence and an awareness of industry needs.

Brendan O’Malley, CEO of EpiSensor added that the research of Professor Diamond can now be applied in a real world application and paid tribute to Enterprise Ireland for its encouragement and support in promoting the partnership.
